Cold Contacts Tracking

What are Cold Contacts?

Picture this- You have a brilliant business (duh!). You spend valuable time crafting the perfect emails to grab your clients’ attention. You start your fine-tuned automation only to find out that some recipients have decided not to open your emails!

People who never open your emails or click on your links for a period of time are called Cold Contacts.

Why care about Cold Contacts?

You might be thinking, “So what?! I like having a big list and I want to keep it that way!” While a big list is a great accomplishment, Cold Contacts have a sneaky way of working against you. Let me explain...

Big email providers like Google track the open rates of emails from specific addresses. If you have a good open rate, the email providers will continue putting your correspondence into recipients’ inboxes.

However, if they see that too many of your recipients do not engage with your emails, they may decide that your emails belong in the Promotions Folder or worse. Obviously, you want to avoid this. “Cold Contacts Tracking” to the rescue!

What can you do?

Enable Cold Contacts Tracking to stop sending mail to people who aren’t paying attention anyway.

Email broadcasts will automatically exclude cold contacts, and you can always turn off the exclusion for a broadcast if you need to.

For even better results, customize and enable one or two of the provided automations to re-engage cold contacts or just clean up your list.

There are 1-email and 4-email re-engagement automations you can enable. Pick one of these: it doesn’t make sense to use both.

Think of the library emails provided with the re-engagement automations as a helpful starting point. You probably want to tweak the copy before sending it.

Use “Cleanup cold contacts” to keep your lists tidy by automatically unsubscribing contacts 30 days after they become cold. You can combine this with either re-engagement campaign.

Where do I enable Cold contacts?

Navigate to your dashboard settings>>cold contacts and enable using the blue button at the bottom:

You'll notice that three automations and five email templates have been automatically created in your account. 

By default the automation triggers are set to disabled but ready to go if you'd like to get them going:

What will make a contact turn into re-engaged?

  • Opening an email (subject to us being able to detect this)*

  • Following a link in an email

  • Subscribing to a list

  • Activating a purchase

*This includes emails for automations and broadcasts except from the emails generated under Re-Engage Cold Contacts automations, they'll need to click on the links to become re-engaged in these cases.
