Alright.
So I'm gonna show you how to create a site today.
This is different from a main website.
Since the main website is, comes with every Simplero account, and it's a public facing website, so we're not gonna talk about that today.
We're gonna talk about having, a site with a community, courses, etcetera, something that you're gonna be using this for, that they have to purchase for or sign up for to get access to.
So that's more what sites are used for.
You can also make a site a public facing website.
So you could have two public facing websites, for example.
Some people do that to have bilingual versions of their site or they've got two different markets.
So that is possible.
But this is the site's feature in addition to the main website, which already comes with your Simplero account.
Okay.
So if you go to content sites, you can create a new site here.
Give it a name and choose, which features you want turned on.
You can just enable them for whichever one you choose.
You can make it a community site with a forum, etcetera.
Course content will disable the forum.
If you don't wanna use it, you just wanna use it for courses or other content, and then you can make it public here, and we'll make it a public site for you if needed.
But all of these options can be tweaked once you actually create the site.
Then click create site whenever you're ready.
I have already created one, so I'm gonna go in here, Christina's site.
So I'm not gonna go into a lot of the details related to, the same things on that are on a main website, like launching your site, creating pages, etcetera.
You'll be able to find that in the main website guides, which we've linked below.
So I'm just gonna go over the things that are relevant to just, a site here, okay, that are in addition to your main website.
So, pages are the same.
The only thing is you can drip out a page as well.
So if you're familiar with the term dripped, it essentially just means that they won't have access to this page, this dripped page, unless they receive access to it through a product or a list or something like that.
Right?
So or manually.
So what you can do when you need to drip out a page is you can select the page, click select action, and choose drip.
This one is in drip mode.
Right?
Now let's say you wanna connect it to a product, head over to sales product, choose your product, go to the content tab, and add a trigger.
And you could say, you know, when the participant is activated, do what?
And that would be, give access to a page, and you'll see your dripped pages show up here as an option and create the trigger and save changes.
So that's one use case for that if you want to have a dripped page.
Courses are pretty straightforward.
This is where you can add a course on this site, and, then you can give access to the course via a product or a list, etcetera.
You can have multiple courses.
Just go ahead and create the course up here.
I won't go into detail about that.
We usually recommend as best practice to keep your course on a closed site instead of creating it and putting it on your public main website.
Usually, the reason for that is just because on the main website, which is open to the public, if they purchase the course and go to the site, they won't see the link to the course until they log in.
And then when they log in, they'll be able to see the link in their top navigation menu.
But the system doesn't know whether to display it or not unless they log in.
And sometimes it can be a bit of a weird user experience because they'll go to the public site looking for the course and not finding it without realizing they still have to log in.
So, usually, we recommend keeping your course on a separate closed site and then granting access to that site from a product, for example.
Okay.
So the forum and the groups.
The forum is essentially a site wide forum where they can you know, members and you can create posts and comment on each other's posts.
Right?
So the forum feature every site comes with a forum feature here that's available to anyone no matter how they came to the site, no matter what product they bought, etcetera.
If there are certain levels of your product, for example, like you've got a VIP tier or a gold tier and a silver tier, Maybe you don't wanna have them all have access to the same forum.
Right?
So you could disable this forum in the settings.
Save changes.
So this is the main forum that everyone has access to if you don't wanna use it.
And then instead, you could create groups.
So each group that you create here, you can grant access to that group from a product or a list, right, or manually.
But, essentially, groups are forums that are exclusive.
So you get to control who has access to them when they come to the site.
Do you want a certain product to get access or a certain cohort or a list, etcetera.
Right?
A membership level.
So there is almost the exact same thing as a forum.
It's just you control who has access to it inside the site.
If anyone comments on your forums or your blog posts, those comments show up here.
So, yeah, so you'll see those comments here.
And if you need to moderate them, you'll also see see the option to moderate them here.
Under the blog, you can add posts, create a blog.
Again, this is a great way to, yeah, keep your members informed, inspire them, etcetera.
So you can add blog posts here, import them from another site.
All of that happens here.
Again, this is a really high level overview.
In the configure tab, you can choose what the home page will be.
So pages that you've created could be the home page or a course.
Let's say you've got a site and you've got one course on that site and everyone is coming for that one course.
Maybe you just want the home page to be that course.
You can make the home page of the course.
You can you one of our system generated pages as the home page.
So that's an option.
The feed page is a system generated page that comes with our our new community experience.
And so what that is is, essentially, it will just display any courses at the top of the page that the person looking at the page has, started but didn't complete.
So we'll say, like, finish where you finish what you started, and then we we show the link to the course.
It also has most recent, forum posts on it, etcetera.
So you can choose the home page.
You can customize the URL, the Simplero URL.
Every site comes with the Simplero URL.
You can use a custom domain if you don't wanna use the Simplero URL.
You can make the site public if you need to, if it's like a second public website that you need.
Sometimes people do that for having bilingual versions of their sites, etcetera.
If you keep this unchecked, it will be private, and they have to get access to it by purchasing something or signing up for something.
You can have them join for free with the join page where we just ask for the name and email, and then boom, they get access to it.
That way, it just makes it easy if you want it to be a free membership site.
You can show a custom message when they're trying to access the site, but they're not logged in yet.
So that will be on the login page.
Right now it's hidden from users till you're ready to launch, showing a splash screen.
Your card image, that's gonna be on the customer's account overview where they see the sites they have access to.
We've got pixel recommendations for that.
Same with the favicon.
We've got pixel recommendations.
For light and dark mode, that's more related to our style guides, and it's related to our new community experience where they can switch between light mode and dark mode in the header navigation menu of the sites.
I'm not gonna go into detail on that.
We've got guides that you can go through on how what what this means, but, essentially, you can choose, what the logo should be in light mode and what the logo should be in dark mode.
So based on what this when the customer is looking at the logo, you'll want the light mode one to be a dark logo, and then you want the dark mode one to be light enough that it shows up on that dark background.
Right?
Feed page, again, you can add a description to the top if you're using that page.
Community features, so if you're choosing to turn on our community features, these would all be turned on for you, and you can turn them off if needed.
If you want them to be able to react, have a member directory, chat each other.
So if you want your members to talk to each other in a chat, auto collapse, long comment threads, show engagement badges.
I won't go into detail on that.
But you if you grab them badges, based on certain actions that they take in the site to foster engagement, then they would it would show next to their name, in the member directory.
Engagement points to and, oh, and it will also show when they are commenting and they put they put a comment on something like a forum or a course.
Engagement points type, that's just you know, we have a way for you to gamify engagement in your membership site or your community, where we grant them points for, liking posts and comments.
You don't have to use this.
The points show up on their contact record from the back end, but, you could add a leaderboard to your top navigation menu on the site.
And, the leaderboard I'll show you how to do that.
But the leaderboard would display the, interactions and who is winning essentially each week, who's had the most engagement, and it kinda looks it it's a gamified way to look at it so that customers can go see, oh, do I have the most engagement or not?
And you can, choose to award them.
You could, you know, contact them and award them something based on how many points they got.
So that's an option.
Moderation notification email.
If you need to moderate comments on something, you can choose the moderation email here.
Notification settings.
If you, wanna so when someone becomes a new member, they have notification settings that they can customize, but you get to decide what they get notifications on when they become a member, and then they can change that.
This won't affect existing members.
If you wanna add a sign up form to every page on your site, you can do that here.
If you have social profiles like Facebook or Instagram or Twitter, Pinterest, etcetera, you can add those here, and we'll add them wherever you choose to put social profiles, like in your top navigation menu or your footer.
Metadata, this is for SEO.
You can give it a site title, an image.
You can have Facebook crawl private pages.
If you need to add triggers, we've got a whole bunch of actions they can do in the membership site that can then trigger another Calvin.
So you get to decide if you need to use that for anything.
And advanced settings, I'm not gonna go into detail just because they, there's a lot here.
But you can come in here, and there's a lot in here that you can find if you are looking for something specific.
Check the advanced settings.

So the last few things I just wanna touch on.
So style guide, again, when you create your site, it's gonna start with the default for sites style guide.
You can switch that to a different type of style guide if you have created a different one.
You can switch it to one you already have, and we'll update all the pages on your site with this style guide.
The style guide is essentially the theme for that site or any pages that use this site.
So that's what the style guide is for.
Under the colors, you've also got the system colors, which would be, buttons and links that show up in light and dark mode on system generated pages like courses or the forum or the feed page, etcetera.
Right?
So you can customize what those colors will look like.
So, yeah, so the style guide, we've got guides that will go into detail on that.
So I'm not gonna touch that.
Also got the engagement badges here.
So if you need to edit those, you can create a new one using ours, or you can create your own.
Redirects, that's pretty straightforward.
If you want an existing page to, that doesn't have a really pretty URL, maybe you want to have a page create a path on your site URL that would then redirect to the URL that's not really pretty.
Again, it's basically redirecting from something that doesn't exist to like, you're choosing a path on a URL, and this path doesn't exist.
So it can't be you're not it's not a redirect from an existing page to another.
It's just choosing a pretty prettier URL here that can then redirect to an existing page with the URL you don't want people to use.

Last thing too for sites, this is the same with, anything, even on the main website.
When you edit layout and navigation up here, you can edit.
I won't go into detail, but you can edit the header and navigation, colors, and what's in it.
You can edit the footer colors and what's in that, and you can add what shows up on top navigation menu here.
And don't forget to publish.
Okay.
And then the very last thing is there are very slight differences between closed site pages, website pages, and landing pages.
Right?
So the closed site pages, which is like if you're going to content sites and you have a closed site, we do offer some sections that are only available on a closed site, like the ability to display your courses and things like that versus a website, the main website.
Those pages, you know, we're not allowing you to display your courses to look to go into them like a course catalog.
You would want them to purchase the courses from your main site, your public site.
Right?
So it's different.
But the pages that you add to your main site versus your closed sites or your sites under content sites, they all use the same two point o builder, essentially.
So the builder is is typically the same.
And then the difference between landing pages and site pages and main website pages is that landing pages are not a site.
Right?
They're just a stand alone page.
So when you have a landing page, that is not going to have, oh, yeah.
I guess it's not here, but that is not going to, have a top navigation menu with lots of different pages on the site.
It's not a site.
It's just this one page, and you can create it, and then, it stands alone with the call to action on it that you can choose.
Alright.
So those are kinda that's super high level.
I know.
But go ahead and just jump in, create your site.

Hi. This "Setting up a Site" video is silent. That doesn't work for me. Also, none of these links below in bullet points go to anything. No videos, nothing. I get a 404 Page not found. Will you be fixing the links? I learn best via video. I can use guides, but much easier with videos to emulate.
Hi Christina! Thank you for letting us know about the links above - I will make sure those are updated shortly (we moved our guides to a new URL at one point, which seemed to break these links).
As for the video, I'm sorry you've been having trouble with the sound! When I press play, the sound is on for me - could you maybe check that sound is turned on for your device? And/or try clearing your browser cache/using a different browser and see if that resolves it?
Either way, we have re-filmed this video to keep it updated with our interface - so the new video should be added soon. I will ping my supervisor about this again to make sure it gets added :)
