Triggers Overview
Triggers let you take certain actions when something happens. To see what the possible actions are... Select Contacts >> Lists from your Simplero Dashboard Select one of your Lists Select the Content tab Scroll down to the Triggers section, click the + Add trigger button, and see what the options are. We frequently add new ones. Examples of actions you can take are: Add to a list, add a tag, start an automation, send an email or a text message, etc. Triggers currently exist on: Lists: Subscribe/Unsubscribe Products: Activate/Deactivate both for billing contact AND for the participant Prices: Someone purchased at that price Auto-Responses: sent. This was a "poor man's workaround" for when we didn't have automations Links: Clicked (for links in broadcasts, auto-responses, and library emails) Affiliate programs: Affiliate registered, approved, rejected Worksheets: Response submitted Tags: Tag added, Tag removed Lessons in Courses: Lesson marked complete, marked not complete Membership sites: For example you can use a trigger for "a member has not logged in". This trigger also works for the app! Fields: When the value of field has changed Field Options: When the form option is selected Landing Pages: When someone subscribes or submits the signup form Subscribes means if they’re already on the list and try to sign up on the form again, this trigger won’t fire again Submits means if they’re already on the list and try to sign up on the form again, this trigger will fire again Surveys: Response submitted Events: Registration is created, approved, cancelled, cancelled by the participant, or denied. Also when someone joins an event or leaves an event/the event ends Scheduling Links: Someone books a slot on your calendar Pipelines: An entry is created Pipeline Stages: Pipeline stage entered, Pipeline stage left Notices: Notice is viewed, Link is clicked or Notice is dismissed Funnel Steps: Funnel step entered, Page viewed, Opt-in, Purchase: Activated first time only, Response is submitted, or Event is scheduled. There are several locations where you can create a Trigger: (not a complete list) List under the Content tab Product under the Content tab Autoresponder A Link in a Broadcast Tag Worksheet Price a Course Lesson On some Custom form fields Survey The drop-down options will vary by the location where the tag is added.  Conditions on Triggers You can add conditions to run the trigger: Set it up to Only fire once per contact - This means if you have the same trigger in several locations within your Simplero such as on a List and on a Product then the system will only attempt to perform that action one time ever for each contact: Or temporarily disable the trigger. GDPR notice for those doing business in the EU: Please keep in mind when using triggers based on actions of your customers that you are in compliance with GDPR, since actions such as these may violate rules in regards to consent and profiling. Triggers
Adding a New Trigger to an Existing List or Product
How Triggers Work on a Product When creating a trigger for a product, you have several options for the trigger event. Here are a few examples: Purchase: Activated, first time only Purchase: Activated Purchase: Deactivated What do those mean? First, the distinction between Purchase and Participant.  When you create triggers on "Purchase", the trigger fires for the billing contact on the purchase (the person who bought the product). For triggers on "Participant", the trigger fires for the participant(s) on the purchase (the contact(s) who receive the content). In 98% of cases, those are the same (the person buys the product for themselves). But in cases where one person is the billing contact and another person is the participant in the course, (the purchaser buys the product for a friend as a gift, for example)… it matters. It also matters when there’s more than one participant for the same product. In that case, the triggers on Participant will be invoked once for each participant. The second half should be self-explanatory: "Activated" triggers run each time a purchase is activated. Which means if it's cancelled, and then activated again, it'll run again. If the purchase enters the "Failed" state because an instalment remains unpaid longer than your settings allow, and they come back and bring their payment in order, the Activated triggers will run again. The "Activated, first time only" triggers only run the first time someone purchases the product (if they purchase multiple times with the same email). The "Deactivated" triggers run each time the purchase goes from an active state to an inactive state, which could happen due to failed payment, cancelling or expiring a subscription, a refund, etc. If you want to use triggers to grant access to some resource, e.g. you want all the active participants to be on a mailing list in MailChimp, or you want to use Webhooks to manage some external service that people get when they purchase through Simplero, you'll want to use the "Participant: Activated" and "Participant: Deactivated" trigger events to manage access to that external resource. Adding Triggers to an Existing Product Your business is always changing and we realize you may need to add a trigger to an existing List or Product. Maybe you want to create a sales funnel for your List or some kind of nurture sequence for your product. Or maybe you’re converting a product to be evergreen. Whatever the case, if you add a trigger after there are already subscribers or purchases, the new trigger will not affect those previously on the list.  However, what if you want the trigger to apply to the previous members? You have two options for how to do this. Both work equally well - but if you have a long List or Product, then I suggest going with option 2.  Option 1- Product Bulk Action Select Sales >> Products from your Simplero Dashboard In the Products tab, locate and select the product Select the Participants tab Check the boxes next to the Participants name you want to perform the trigger for Once all the Participants have been selected, click the Select action... drop-down list and select the action you need: Option 2 - Create a Segment Select Contacts >> Segments from your Simplero Dashboard Select the Segments tab Create a segment that only includes the List or Product that you’re adding the trigger to Perform an action to the segment - Use the same settings that you used when creating your trigger GDPR notice for those doing business in the EU: Please keep in mind when using triggers based on actions of your customers that you are in compliance with GDPR, since actions such as these may violate rules in regards to consent and profiling. Triggers
Triggers on Link Clicks
Triggers on Link Clicks You can add a trigger to run some action when a link included on a Broadcast or auto-response is clicked. This is super useful to catch people who are interested enough in an offer to click a link about it, but may not have bought the program yet. Simply go to your broadcast or auto-response, find the link, and click Edit.  Select Marketing from Simplero Dashboard Choose the Email broadcasts tab Locate and select the Broadcast name you wish to edit Scroll down to the Link check box and click the Pencil icon to edit and add a trigger that will fire when they click this link: In the Edit link screen, scroll down to the Trigger section and click the +Add a trigger button: The trigger can Add a tag, Notify you, add them to another List, or any of a number of other actions Click the Save changes button NOTE! GDPR notice for those doing business in the EU: Please keep in mind when using triggers based on actions of your customers that you are in compliance with GDPR, since actions such as these may violate rules in regards to consent and profiling. Triggers
Triggers on Prices
Why would you add a Trigger to a Price? There are several times when adding a trigger to a price would be helpful... You want to offer different access/content for different price points. You can, of course, set up a multi-tiered product system or maybe a single product with tiered pricing. But sometimes maybe it's as simple as giving access to one page in the site. Or maybe that price includes one on one support and you only want to send an email to let them know how to book that support with you. Rather than set up a whole new product you can use the trigger to give them access to a page, set them in an automation, send off an email from the email library, or any of the other things available via triggers. You want to be notified if someone buys at a certain price point. You can use the trigger option to send you a notification when someone buys at the price point. This is great if say you are combining a product you need to mail with your online course and need to know when someone purchases the price point that includes the item you need to mail.   NOTE! If your product is set up to allow the Purchaser and Participants to be different, you may want to look closely when you set up a trigger. Triggers that fire based on the purchase will cause the action to occur for the purchaser, whereas triggers that fire based on the participant will cause the action to occur, you guessed it, for the participant.  Adding a Trigger to a Specific Price Select Sales >> Products from your Simplero Dashboard Locate and select your product Select the Prices tab Locate and select the Price you want to add a trigger Click the Pencil icon to edit located in the top right of that Price list: Scroll down to the Triggers section and click the + Add a trigger button: Complete the fields for your new trigger and click the Save changes button NOTE! GDPR notice for those doing business in the EU: Please keep in mind when using triggers based on actions for your customers that you are in compliance with GDPR, since actions such as these may violate rules in regards to consent and profiling. Triggers
Abandoned Cart Trigger
No one wants to deal with the let down of a customer who starts a checkout process but doesn’t make the purchase. Luckily, often those customers just need a little nudge in the right direction. An automated abandoned cart trigger is the perfect nudge, and at Simplero, we’ve got you covered.  With an abandoned cart trigger, when a customer doesn’t complete their checkout, you can easily follow-up with them, which means better conversion rates and more.  Abandoned cart triggers also allow you to learn about why your customers aren’t completing purchases, and they can help you better direct customers to the right product. So with one simple solution, you can enhance customer relationships and customer experience. Plus, because abandoned cart triggers are automated - so you get these benefits without spending more time or energy. As soon as your customers enter the information in the order form and try to submit, the timer for abandoned purchase triggers starts. So if a purchase is not completed within 30 minutes after the first step is submitted, we'll fire the purchase abandoned trigger. Ready for more completed orders? Here are the steps to setup an abandoned cart trigger: 1. Sales >> Products - select the product you want to add the trigger to.  2. Click Content tab and "add trigger" button at the bottom. 3. Use the Purchase: Cart abandoned for 30+ minutes option for When this happens: Now when a purchase is abandoned for 30+ minutes, this trigger will fire. In this example they would be put into an automation - you can call it your "Abandoned Cart Automation", where you can add an email sequence enticing them to complete their purchase.  When does the trigger fire? It depends on the payment processor that your customer selects: For Stripe purchases, when the customer enters their card details if they are incorrect For other payment processors where your customers get redirected outside Simplero (such as Paypal or Quickpay) -The abandoned cart is created as soon as they get redirected to the new window, if they don’t complete the purchase For manual payment processors - We don’t create an abandoned purchase

Account Triggers - Targeting and Re-Targeting Leads
Targeting leads based off their interaction with you or Retargeting your leads is a great way to drum up sales from warm leads. To learn what lead scores are and how to use them in Simplero, start with this guide. In Simplero, you can target and retarget your leads automatically via our Account Triggers function: First, make sure Triggers are enabled in the More menu: Then head to Marketing > Triggers: Account Triggers can fire in multiple cases... Lead Score Goes Above Value Lead Score Goes Below Value These first two cases (lead score goes above/below value) have the trigger perform based on your customers’ lead score. For Example: Let’s say you have a product with a trigger that increases their lead score when they purchase (which you can add via Product >> Content >> Triggers): And you have a list with a trigger that increases their lead score when they sign up for your freebie (which you can add via List >> Content >> Triggers): Maybe you’ve added the trigger on multiple lists and products. Now you can set up an Account Trigger via Marketing >> Triggers that performs an action when their lead score goes over a certain amount (like sending them an email with a coupon code to one of your products as a thank you for engaging with you): Another example would be to add them to a sales funnel automation when their lead score drops below a certain amount or increases above a certain amount, so you can retarget leads who are losing contact with you or stay in contact with your hot leads. Page is Viewed This third option is based on their viewing of a URL. Let’s say you have a customer who viewed your sales page but didn't order the product. You can now set up an Account trigger that adds a tag every time the sales page is viewed: Then you can create a segment that includes everyone with the “Visited Sales Page” tag, and excludes anyone who purchased the product to see who viewed the page but didn’t buy. Here’s our guide on how to create a segment. NOTE! When using the option “Page View”, you can’t just use any old page. A few things need to be in place on the page first: The page needs to have a Simplero Embedded Opt-in Form on it. The contact needs to have clicked on a link via a Simplero broadcast and not have cleared their cookies since doing so. Contact Becomes Cold (Unengaged) Contact Becomes Uncold (Engaged) For numbers 4 and 5, you can perform an action when a contact becomes engaged or unengaged per the options you configured in your Unengaged Contacts settings. Here’s our guide on configuring your Unengaged Contacts settings. Customer Note is Added Customer Note is Removed Numbers 6 and 7 cause the trigger to perform an action on a contact when you add or remove a note from their contact record. “Do Not Contact” was Turned OFF for a Contact “Do Note Contact” was Turned ON for a Contact Here’s our guide on how the Do Not Contact feature works. NOTE! GDPR notice for those doing business in the EU: Please keep in mind when using triggers based on actions of your customers that you are in compliance with GDPR. Actions such as these may violate rules in regards to consent and profiling. This message does not constitute legal advice - should you have a question about compliance, please consult a lawyer. Retargeting by Lead Score The Lead Score function in Simplero allows you to not only target leads and drop them into a sales funnel, but also retarget them if their lead score starts to drop. To do this automatically, follow the steps below: Create your sales funnel Automation via Marketing >> Automations Select the Marketing from your Simplero Dashboard Select the Triggers option Click the Add trigger in the upper-right hand corner: Select one of two options: Lead Score Goes Above a Value - Select this option if you are looking to target leads when that is a super level of "warmth"  Lead Score Goes Below a Value -  Select this option if you want to retarget leads who appear to be losing association with your business: Now select Start automation for Action when Lead score above: Enter a Value for your lead score under Lead score goes above/below value: For example: If I give them 1 point for every product and list they purchase from me, I might put in when they drop below a 2 - assuming my average customer is in 1 product and 1 list giving them a lead score of 2. This would allow me to retarget anyone who unsubscribed from a list or canceled their product purchase. Select the automation you created in step #1 Set any conditions you desire and click the Save changes button Retargeting when a URL is Viewed Do you want to target people who have viewed a specific page on your site? Create your sales funnel automation Select the Marketing from your Simplero Dashboard Select the Triggers tab Click the Add trigger in the upper-right hand corner Select the option that reads Page view: In the Action when Page View section, select Start an Automation: Add the URL of the page to the URL section Select the Match type Select the automation from step #1 via the Automation section: NOTE! You can also create the automation here if you haven’t done so yet… just press + Create new automation, type the name of your new automation and press Create: Set your conditionals you desire and click the Save changes button NOTE! Remember when using this option, the page being viewed needs to have a Simplero embedded opt-in form on it - and whether or not the person completes the form doesn't matter. So maybe just embed your newsletter opt-in form on the page, or you can even embed it using the trigger option so the form doesn't show unless someone wants to see it. And second, remember that the contact needs to click on a link to the page at some point from a Simplero broadcast first- so you may want to direct them to this URL from a broadcast rather then texting it or sharing it on social media or a course lesson.

Sending a Text Message (SMS)
Included in Simplero plans: Scale and Skyrocket Sometimes email isn't the preferred method of communication. With Simplero, you can also send Text Messages to your Contacts! Text Messages are great for short to-the-point messages that jump immediately to the awareness of your recipients. Note that this is only included in certain Simplero plans. Have a look here. In this guide, we cover: How to send Text Messages with a Trigger How to send Text Messages with an Automation How to send Text Messages manually through a Product or List How to send Text Messages through Segments Considerations when texting with Simplero Numbers used for SMS Text replies Via a Trigger Text messages can be sent to your customers via a trigger on product, list, automation, or segment. Click the blue Copy now button to add your subscribers Upload File: This feature allows you to import a list you’ve saved in CSV format. Before importing, make sure the encoding of the file is UTF-8. That's an indication of how special characters - basically anything but the 26 letters of the English alphabet and the digits 0-9 - are stored. If it's not UTF-8, then it's probably going to get rejected by Simplero, and you'll need to change the encoding before uploading. Here's an online tool that can help you detect encoding and convert it to UTF-8. Select the Contacts from your Simplero Dashboard Select Lists from the dropdown menu Select the list you want to edit Select the Add subscribers button OR the Import contacts button in the top right hand corner Select the Upload file tab Click the Choose file button to choose your subscribers list from your computer: Choose Columns to import Configure your Import options Press the Save changes button to upload the file: NOTE! If your file downloaded as a zip file, you’ll need to open the zip file and save the CSV file before importing. ***If you’re migrating from another mail platform, check out our guides on Migrating Step 3: Create a Segment Select Contacts from your Simplero Dashboard Select Segments from the dropdown menu Click the + Create a segment button located in the upper right corner: In the Include section, choose where you are collecting these contacts from (e.g. a list, broadcast, product, auto-response, automation, space, etc.) and select the Sources for these Types of recipients: These are the contacts you want to send the text message to. Click the Save changes button and this will start populating all the contacts for that segment NOTE! You don't need to select anything in the filter, it will automatically choose "active subscribers" Once the list is done "calculating" the contacts, click the Perform action... button: Under Do this, select Text message to customer, type your message and click the Go do it! button: NOTE! Due to the way text messages work, a message longer than 153 characters, or 67 characters if special characters are used, will be broken into multiple text message segments. A message of 240 characters will, therefore, be sent and billed as 2 messages if no special characters are used, or 4 messages if the message contains special characters. The way messages are broken up into individual messages depends on the country and carrier. As mandated by the IMDA, A2P messages sent into Singapore from International Phone Numbers will be blocked from July 2023. Some Nordic countries (Finland, Norway, Denmark, Iceland) have started blocking messages that contain URLs We recommend not including URLs in text messages - They are often marked as spam and don't get delivered  Billing notes Each sent message is billed. That means if a text is broken into 3 sent messages you are billed for 3 texts. Our plans do not include text messages. To see your current usage from your account, go to Settings >> Plan and Billing.  Simplero does not stop you from sending texts. Instead, you are billed at the end of the billing cycle for the total cost. The rates can be found on the text message pricing page. Do also note that administrator text message notifications about new purchases (set up under Settings >> Product) or tickets are not counted towards your usage of text messages. Numbers used for SMS The SMS will be sent from our default numbers below:  Texts to Denmark come from +45 92 45 61 87 Non-Danish texts will come from either 855 230 9777 or 855 303 2777 Numbers usually need to be added as +(Country code) as opposed to 00(Country Code) Text message replies Please note that our system is not set up to receive replies to text messages/SMS you send out, with the exception of Start/Stop. Recipients have the option to reply with the text ‘Stop’ which will stop the sending of ALL texts from ANY Simplero account. They can resume receiving text messages by replying with ‘Start’.
Triggers
Working with Webhook Triggers
How to Work with Webhook Triggers Triggers have the ability to post to what's called a Webhook. A Webhook is a specific URL that you define that will receive an HTTP POST request that contains some information. In this case, it'll be a JSON document with information about the object your trigger is on: Let's take an example: If you create a trigger on a product to fire each time a purchase is activated for the first time, then when a purchase is activated for the first time, we'll post to that Webhook with a JSON representation of the purchase. If you set the trigger to happen when a participant is deactivated, then the JSON document will be for the participant. The easiest way to get started with this is to use RequestBin. It's a free service that will provide you with a Webhook endpoint that you can enter into Simplero. You can then go see exactly what's posted. Once you've written your own code, you can change the Webhook URL in the trigger in Simplero. Manage your Webhook Triggers Navigate to your Simplero dashboard >> Settings >> Integrations: Scroll down to the Webhooks section. You’ll find here all webhooks that are being used in your Simplero account and can also create new ones using the button at the bottom: + Create new webhook.

Triggers
Triggers let you take certain actions when something happens. In other words, they are If-then rules that trigger actions based on specified events. You can learn more about them from our help guide module on triggers. You can also check the guides on specific types of triggers such as triggers on prices, triggers on link clicks, or global triggers. You can also check how to add triggers to products. A really useful one is the abandoned cart trigger that starts when a customer abandons a purchase.
