Email Broadcasts
Broadcast Overview
In most online systems, if you want to email a group of people, you've got to get them on a list. Always a list. So then when someone buys something from you, those online systems make it so you'll need to get them on a list also or they won't receive your emails. And then if they opt for a refund, or cancel their subscription, those online systems make it so you'll need to remember to get them off your list, or they'll keep getting the emails forever. Not so with Simplero. In Simplero, every collection of people (with emails) is automatically something you can send emails to. That means you can send an email to: A List(obviously) A Product (every participant in your course or workshop or membership in good standing) An Affiliate program (all your affiliates in that affiliate program) A Membership site (all the members of that membership site) A Tag (contacts whose contact information has been tagged with the same tag) You can send broadcast emails, auto-responses, or even text messages to them. As long as they have not unsubscribed or canceled or fallen behind on their purchase, you can email them.  In Simplero you also have the option to email individuals or groups of individuals not connected to each other through one of the above avenues. That means you can email: Individual contacts (send an email to a single person) A group of individual contacts (select two or more people from a contacts screen, or within a product or list) A created segment (contacts that are not on a single list or in a single product) It is important to note that we at Simplero highly recommend using caution when emailing tags, individuals, and segments. Your contacts are not able to unsubscribe from these groups the way they can from a list or a product and you may accidentally email someone who no longer wanted to hear from you. A broadcast can be sent to multiple groups of people at the same time. For example: You can send it to three different lists at once To multiple products A combination of lists and products Everyone on a list who is not also on a product. You choose this with the include/exclude buttons on the recipients screen. And you can choose the date and time a broadcast should be sent in the future, or send it out immediately. Read our List & Contact Best Practices for more on this! Quick Send You'll find the action 'Send quick email" pretty much everywhere you can send a broadcast from.  In action tables it will be right at the top of the Communication section: As soon as you click on Send quick email, the modal below will open up for you to start typing your email: NOTE! You'd like to know... Sender and Reply to settings will be in the Emails section on your Account Settings: For Simplero to be able to handle replies to your broadcasts you’ll need to enable the checkbox “Process and filter email replies and forward them to you” in your Account Settings: The template we will use is your default Email design (the one with the star!): Delivered quick emails can be found on your Delivered Broadcast page.

Email Font Size
Edit the Default Font Size of Your Emails To edit the default size of the font in your email, you will need to edit at the email template level: Go to Settings > Marketing > Email designs Locate the email template you’re using with the font you want to change Click on the template - this will take you into the default screen to edit the template. Scroll down to the Body text section, select the font size by clicking the drop-down menu list: This will update the font size for any text that is set to "paragraph" in the broadcast. You can see a Preview of your template on the right side of the screen or click the Preview changes in a new window button on the bottom of the page Scroll down to the bottom and click the blue Save changes when you're done or Save and continue editing button if you want to edit some more Edit the Font Size in a Specific Email To edit the font size manually in a specific email, you can do that at any time by highlighting the text in your email and clicking on the font size button to pick a size:

Creating a Broadcast
How to Create a Broadcast in Simplero   Your WYSIWYG Tools Editing Emails After Delivery Recipient Counts Testing and Email Previews Editing the Legal Footer Navigate to Email Broadcasts From your Simplero Dashboard, go to Marketing >> select Email Broadcasts. Create a New Broadcast Click the blue Create new broadcast button in the upper right corner of the screen. Choose a Template Next, choose a template for your broadcast. You can either use a custom email design if you’ve created one or stick with the default options. The default choices are usually either Plain or Simple. The Plain template is unformatted and bare-bones, while the Simple template, though still basic, is contained within a structured layout, making the content less likely to overflow the view. Once you click Start Writing, you'll move on to the content step of your broadcast—this is where the magic happens. Here, you can insert your subject line and craft your email content. Composing Your Broadcast Sender Information: Enter the Sender name, Email from, and Reply-to details. You can override your default settings if needed. Subject Line: Give your broadcast a clear and engaging subject. Internal Name: Assign an internal name for easy identification in your broadcasts screen. Pre-header: Create a catchy pre-header that will appear as the first line of your email in recipients' inboxes. Email Body: Write your email content. Use the Media Library icon to add images as desired. Once you're done, click the red Save and Next button. Selecting Recipients Include Contacts: Choose who will receive your broadcast by selecting Type of contacts, Sources, and Conditions in the Include section. Only selected contacts will receive the broadcast. Exclude Contacts: Specify any contacts you wish to exclude from receiving the broadcast in the Exclude section. These exclusions are applied after the inclusions. You can add multiple groups in both the Include and Exclude sections by clicking the + Add include and + Add exclude buttons. Tips for Choosing Recipients When sending out broadcasts, you can choose your recipients in two ways: Include Recipients: Select specific lists, contacts, purchasers, participants, affiliates, site members, tagged contacts, or other segments to include in your broadcast. Exclude Recipients: Similarly, you can exclude specific groups to avoid sending to certain recipients. For example, if you’re promoting a new product to your list, include your main list in the broadcast but exclude anyone who has already purchased the product. This way, you won’t bother those who have already made a purchase. Key Point: You only need to exclude contacts or lists that are specifically relevant. There’s no need to exclude each product or list that isn’t part of the broadcast. Click the red Next button at the top-right of the screen when finished selecting your recipients. Review and Schedule Schedule Delivery: Choose when you want your broadcast sent—either immediately or at a later time. Set the delivery date and time if scheduling for later. Send a Preview: Enter an email address in the right sidebar to send yourself a preview. Preview Modes: Switch between Web and Mobile previews to see how your email will look on different devices. Send Broadcast: Click the red Queue button in the upper right corner to send your broadcast. If sending immediately, it will say Send broadcast now. If scheduled for later, it will say Queue for delivery later. If you're not ready to send, you can Save as draft instead. Navigation and Editing All sections in the broadcast header are clickable, allowing you to move back and forth through different steps if you need to make any changes. Back to top Your WYSIWYG Tools You can use the WYSIWYG editor to enhance your email by adding images, links, buttons, and personalized content. WYSIWYG stands for "What You See Is What You Get," meaning the content you create in the editor will appear the same way to your recipients. To customize and insert content into your email body, you have two options for adding media, such as PDFs, images, audio, and videos. You can either add media from your Simplero media library (icon pictured on the left below) or import files directly from your computer (icon pictured on right below). Next, you can easily add links and buttons to your email. For detailed instructions on adding a button to a broadcast, please refer to [this guide]. To add links, use the icon shown below. You can either highlight your text and then click the icon, or click the icon directly to open the link modal and enter all the details. Finally, let's talk about personalized content—who doesn’t love receiving emails addressed just to them? You can create that personalized experience for your customers in Simplero as well! Just click the icon shown below and select one of the personalization options from the dropdown menu. This feature automatically populates information based on who is viewing the content. For example, it will insert the viewer's name, making the email feel more personalized. Back to top Understanding How Recipients Work The recipient count in your queued broadcast may not match the count in the list you're sending to. This is because the system automatically excludes hard bounces, duplicates, and do-not-contact addresses, which will affect the final delivery count. Additionally, if you're sending an email to subscribers or product purchasers, the broadcast will include all purchasers and active subscribers at the time of delivery, even those who just purchased or subscribed, even if they are not reflected in the initial recipient count. You can refresh the recipient list to see an updated number, but keep in mind that this count is not dynamically updated as the list grows. Back to top Editing Emails After Delivery Unfortunately, once the broadcast has been sent, there’s no way to stop or edit the content. However, you can still update the links. Simply click the pencil next to the link in your broadcast delivery report: Back to top Testing and Email Previews Note: When sending yourself a preview email, if you don’t choose to view the email as if it’s sent to you with your name, the preview will appear in your inbox with the name selected in the "preview as if" dropdown. Please remember, this is just a preview and is not an indication of any issues with email delivery or what your recipients will see. This behavior is expected. Note: Auto-subscribe/auto-unsubscribe links cannot be tested in a preview email. If you try, you'll receive a "bad link" error message. To test those links, you'll need to deliver the email to yourself first, then copy and recreate that broadcast to resend. Back to top Editing the Legal Footer in Emails You might notice an additional footer at the end of your email. This is a legal footer, automatically generated by Simplero, and it cannot be edited. Including an unsubscribe option in your email footer is essential for compliance and maintaining trust with your audience. It helps prevent your emails from being marked as spam, which improves deliverability, ensuring your messages reach the inbox instead of being filtered out. Learn more about email footers (and prefixes) in this guide. Back to top ----- Notice anything wacky in this guide? Quick Emails
Sending Quick Emails in Simplero Need to send a quick email to a customer without creating a full broadcast? Simplero makes it easy! From any list in your Simplero account, you can swiftly send an email to one or multiple clients. When we say "list," we mean you can send a quick email to: Purchasers of a product Participants of a product List subscribers Your contact list Event participants Members Groups Course members You'll also find this option in individual contact records and within automations. Essentially, anywhere you have a list of contacts, you can send a quick email. Let's take a closer look! How to Send a Quick Email Inside contact records, you can send a quick email by finding and selecting this icon: You can also send a quick email directly from any list. Simply search for and select the contact(s) you wish to email. You will notice a new Select action... dropdown menu, click to expand the menu options. Scroll to the Communication section of the menu, and choose Send a quick email. Upon clicking, the quick email modal will open. Fill in all of your email details, and once you're done, simply click Send quick email. What Email Template Do We Use? When you send a quick email the system will use your default email template. To find your default email template, open your settings, and Email Designs.  The starred template is your default template. How to Manage Quick Emails? Your delivered quick sends can be found in your Delivered Broadcasts with your other deliveries. Where Do Replies Go? Replies will be sent to the reply email you specify when composing your email. If you prefer, we can handle the replies for you. Just enable the relevant setting in your account settings to manage your replies directly in Simplero.  Simplero will catch replies to your broadcasts, auto-responses, and library emails, filter out people's vacation responses and other junk, and then forward the replies to the email address you choose, where each reply will get a slightly different subject line, so the replies end up in their own separate threads in most email programs. Open settings from your dashboard, and select Account Settings: Scroll to the section titled Emails, and enable the Process and filter email replies and forward them to you. You can find your replies in Simplero by opening the quick email from your delivered email broadcasts and navigating to the Replies tab. That's it! ----- Notice anything wacky in this guide? Resend a Broadcast
Now more than ever, you can easily resend a broadcast to those that didn't open the first time, or to those who have been added to your list (or product or whatever), since the last broadcast. Go to a Broadcast that you've sent: Select Marketing from your Simplero Dashboard. Choose Email Broadcasts from the dropdown menu Click the Delivered tab, locate and click on the broadcast you've sent: You'll see the Broadcast overview and if you look in the top-right header, you'll see a Resend to… button. Click on that, and you’ll find the following options to choose from: Same people New subscribers Unopens Opens Non-clicks Clicks Non-replies Replies All of them will create a duplicate of the broadcast, with the same recipients, but with one additional twist: Same people will send to the same recipients. New subscribers will exclude anyone who received the broadcast, so it only includes people who came on board after the broadcast was sent. Unopens will send to anyone who didn’t open the email. Opens will send to anyone who opened the email. Non-clicks will send to anyone who didn’t click within the email. Clicks will send to anyone who clicked within the email. Non-replies will send to anyone who didn’t reply to the email. Replies will send to anyone who replied to the email.  Enjoy!

Handle Replies to Mass Emails with Ease
I bet you've experienced this: Each time you send a broadcast to hundreds or even thousands of recipients, you brace yourself for the inevitable flood of vacation and out-of-office responses. And if you encourage people to reply to you—or if they do, anyway, which is great, you want the interaction—then you end up with one long thread of replies and your replies to them and back and forth. They all end up in one long thread in most email clients, and it quickly becomes a jumbled mess that's almost impossible to keep track of Well, not anymore. Enter the option to Let Simplero Handle Your Replies! If you turn this feature on, we'll do three simple things: Filter out auto-replies like vacation and out-of-office emails Create a new, unique subject line for each reply, so they end up as separate threads Add a helpful link to the admin page for the contact And then we forward the email on to your regular reply-to email address. It's pretty simple, but it makes your life so much easier. It will make you fall in love with engaging your community again. How to set up Simplero handling replies Select the Settings gear from your Simplero Dashboard Click on the Account settings tab Scroll down to the Emails section and toggle ON the Process and filter email replies and forward them to you option: Now Simplero is set up to manage any replies to your emails sent from Simplero. NOTE! If the Reply to email on your broadcasts is the same one set up for running support tickets through Simplero, then the replies will filter to your support tickets.

Expiring Links
Create a sense of urgency in your offerings using Countdowns and Expiring links As a business owner you probably already know that one of the biggest ways to strum up sales is to create a sense of urgency. Creating a sense of urgency gets customers excited to buy right then, it makes them feel like if they don't have it now they will lose out entirely. And who wants to miss out on something good? In Simplero broadcasts you can create a sense of urgency in two ways: Countdown timers Expiring links Countdown Timers are a built-in interpolation key that can be quickly inserted into Simplero Broadcasts. These allow your customers to clearly see how much time they have left before they’re left out of the fun.  Of course, then the question comes: What happens after the time is up? That super special sale might be over - but your customers still have the link in their email, so what are you as the business owner to do? You wouldn't want to take down the sales page, or you’ll lose those potential customers. So instead we suggest you expire the link and create a redirect!  This way your leads and customers can still click the link but instead of being taken to the super special sale they missed out on, they’ll go somewhere new and special for those who missed it.  In the instructions below, you’ll find instructions on how to expire a link in an email broadcast and add a new link to redirect them to so you don't lose those valuable customers.   Expiring a link within your broadcast  (NOTE! This also works with auto-response emails and library emails) Select Marketing from your Simplero Dashboard Select the Email Broadcasts from the dropdown menu Locate and click on the Broadcast name that contains the link(s) you want to expire NOTE! You must have some kind of link(s) in the Body of your broadcast email in order for the Links box to show Locate the Links box and click the Pencil icon next to the link to edit: In the Edit link screen, turn ON the Expire link switcher: In the Expire link this long after email is sent area, enter the number you want to expire and click the drop-down arrow to select if you want expiration in days, hours, minutes, etc. Paste or enter the destination link you want your customer to be redirected after the link has expired (optional) Click the blue Save changes button IMPORTANT! If they click on the link before the expiration and save it in some way, they won't have access to the URL if they access it after the expiration period. They will not get an invalid link - instead, they’ll be redirected to the other destination link you've entered after the expiration. NOTE! These steps can also be used if a link in your broadcast is broken or incorrect in some way. Simply edit the link in the email body of your Broadcast. Select Marketing from your Simplero Dashboard Select the Email Broadcasts from the dropdown menu Locate and click on the Broadcast name that contains the link(s) you want to expire In the Broadcast information page, highlight the link and then select the Paperclip icon in the Body section In the Edit screen, enter or paste the new URL in the email body and click the blue Update button when done: Want to send a limited time offer? If it’s a price link you are looking to expire, that can be done via the price itself and will prevent people from bookmarking the price for later purchasing.  If you’re sending a sales email as an auto-response, follow the steps below: Go into the product you’re promoting Create a secret price In the price you’ll find a section called Access control: Under this, choose the list you are setting up the auto-response for and since when after they subscribe to that list you'd like this price to be available for: Save price Copy the the direct link to the price: Paste that link in your auto-responder If this is a broadcast to one or more lists where people have subscribed at different times, follow the steps below: Create a new list and copy subscribers to this list that you want to receive the special price: Go into the product you are promoting Create a secret price - in the price, you’ll find a section called Access control: Under this, choose the list you just created and since when after they subscribe to that list you'd like this price to be available for: Save price Copy the the direct link to the price: Create a broadcast and select this new list as your recipients. Paste in the secret price link to the broadcast. NOTE! The days of engagement are based on a 24 hour period. If a user opts in at 2pm, the link expires at 2pm on the given date.

Insert Option for Broadcasts
Interpolation keys make it easy to auto-populate information into an email that is unique to the reader. An example of a common interpolation key is Name. Anyone who has ever sent an email broadcast has probably used the word name somewhere in the body and expected to fill in with the contacts name. This is called an Interpolation key or a Merge field. Simplero offers you a few simple ways to auto-populate different information into the email: The insert dropdown in the body editing menu Creating your own Below you’ll find instructions on how to use Insert options.  Insert drop down Select Marketing from your Simplero Dashboard Select Email Broadcasts from the dropdown menu Locate and click on the Broadcast name to edit the email body On the Broadcast editor page, click the Content tab in the header. In the menu for editing the body of a broadcast, email library email, or autoresponder, you’ll see the Insert icon (if you’re using the Legacy editor) or the { icon (if you’re using the New Simplero Editor). When selected you’ll find a drop-down of preset commonly used Interpolation keys: Once you select an option from the drop-down list, you will see code placed into the email. For example, in the image below the First Name was selected - and you can see in the email where their name will be placed as it says NOTE! When using this feature... If you select the first name and they have not registered with their name it will say reader by default - unless you’ve changed that in your Account Settings. If you haven’t issued the user a Simplero ID and password, using those options won’t work either. This would happen if you connected a site to a list or product after they had already registered in which case in the content screen you will see a big orange button that says issue Simplero IDs. You will need to select that first.  The password will come through blank if they changed it. When a new Simplero ID is automatically created for a user, we also auto-generate the password. That password can be emailed to the customer, as that's the only way they’ll know their password. However, after that first auto-generated password, if they change it, it will then be stored in our database using a one-way encryption scheme called bcrypt. This is good security practice and is done to ensure that even if our database was to be compromised and some hacker get access to it (knock on wood), they wouldn't be able to read the passwords. They're stored this way so they're very hard to unencrypt. When you log in, we encrypt what you type using the same scheme, and test if the encrypted versions match. Long story short: We don't know what someone's password is after they've changed it, so we can't include it in the emails.

Magic Content URL
Understanding the Magic Content URL in Your Emails When you write an email, you can add a link. You can link to web addresses, such as http://simplero.com, or to one of your site. You can link to an email address, such as hello@simplero.com. OR you can link the "magic" content URL… What is the magic content URL? To answer that, you need to understand how Simplero works "under the hood". We have several objects in Simplero. One of the central objects, of course, is the Contact object. A contact has name and email, plus whatever custom contact fields you've added. Though, when you're sending a Broadcast to a List, we're not just sending that broadcast to the Contact subscribed to that list. We send it to the Subscription on the List. The Subscription, in turn, is a "wrapper" around the Contact, with extra information. When you send to a Product, we don't send it to the Contact, we send it to the Participant or the Purchase. The Purchase or Participant will be a "wrapper" around the Contact, which will have extra information. Here's the breakdown: Lists have Subscriptions Products have Purchases and Participants Membership Site have Members Affiliate Programs have Affiliates Segment have Segment Members Tags have Taggings Each of these can have their own magic Content URL. Subscription - the Content URL will be a link to the page that confirms their subscription, which will also be where they can download any content for the list Purchase - the Content URL will link to the page where they can manage the billing and see the invoices for this purchase Participant - the Content URL will be where they can get the content for the product. If Purchase contact and Participant content are the same, the Content URL for both will be the same and include both billing stuff and content. Otherwise, they'll be separate. Affiliate - the Content URL will be their affiliate center where they can get affiliate links and see their earnings Site Member - it'll be a link to Membership Site Contact - it'll be a link to the page where they can manage their subscriptions and change the email address. This is the same link you'll get to by clicking the unsubscribe/manage subscription link at the bottom of emails Tagging - it'll be the same as for the Contact. Segments and Automations Are Special Segments are tricky because each member of a segment is actually the wrapper object. So if you create a segment consisting of all the purchasers who completed a purchase of a product, each Segment Member is actually going to be a Purchase object. So for a Segment Member, the Content URL will be the same as for the wrapper type that is the Segment Member. I hope that makes sense. This stuff gets complicated fast. Automations as well are not populated by just contacts. They're populated by their wrapper objects such as a Purchase or Participant or Subscription, etc. So What If I Just Want to Link to a Page in a Membership Site? Easy. Just go to the page in the Membership, copy the URL from your browser's address bar, and insert it into the email as the same way you would a link to a story on Buzzfeed. No magic required.  I hope this helps clarify things.

Interpolation Keys
What if I want to create my own Interpolation Key? We realize the input screen is limited to the common ones and there may be times when you would prefer to pull other specific information your contact provided when they subscribed to your list. You can do this by creating an interpolation key when you create your form fields.  To add an interpolation key for custom fields, follow the steps below... Select Settings from your Simplero Dashboard Select the Custom Fields tab Select any field from the "Contact fields" already in use: To edit, click the Pencil icon located in the far right of that field: Press + Key and enter the new Name for interpolation key. Then click the blue Save changes button: To Use Interpolation Key To use the Interpolation Key in your broadcast or autoresponder, simply go to Settings >> Custom Fields and press the clipboard icon to copy the key. Then you can paste it into your email: Special cases when added to an email: Facebook URL fields, telephone fields, and Twitter handle fields all ordinarily output an HTML link. In these cases you will follow the format below when adding these interpolation fields to your emails: URL fields: Note the spacing between text and brackets and the "_plain" at the end of the key Common Interpolation Keys and Where to Use Them Interpolation Keys Interpolation keys will fetch the data in the key and present it on the receiving end for the customer. These are primarily used in Emails. See our guide on common Interpolation Keys Liquid Objects Liquid is a templating language that allows you to display dynamic content on web pages. So we need this key to be dynamic, because it’s based on a user dynamically visiting a site or a page. Liquid objects are similar to interpolation keys, except they need to be used for web and course pages specifically. See our guide on common Liquid Objects

Dripping a Page in a Broadcast
Dripping is designed for the situation when you want people to have access to the content at different times, or access to each part of the content over time. You can also drip a site, as well as a course lesson or module. It's what lets you do evergreen products and drip-content, where a module is released each week following their purchase - regardless of when they chose to buy. Or allow you to use the same site over and over again for different groups/classes going through the same course. For this reason, they're optimised for use with Auto-Responses and Automations, which are also designed for things happening at different times for different people. If you wish to drip a page in a Broadcast... Select Marketing from your Simplero Dashboard Choose Email Broadcasts from the dropdown  Select the blue Create new broadcast button in the upper right corner: Complete your Broadcast information: Select an Email email design template (see guides) Enter the  Sender name, email from and Reply-to information if you want to override your account default settings Give your broadcast a Subject name that your reader will see Give your broadcast an Internal name that is what you will see in your broadcasts screen Type Email body and insert images as desired by clicking the Media library icon: Click the red Next button Choose recipients >> IMPORTANT! Be sure to select a list or product that is giving access to this page. You cannot have additional recipients that do not have access to that same page; if you do, the drip option won't be available. If you haven't given access to a site yet, go to the List or Product, then go to Content, under Site click "Add existing site" and select the site (see our guide) Click the red Next button at the bottom of the screen After you've selected your recipients and your list or product, go edit the content section. You'll now see a set of checkboxes under the editor, where you can choose to release pages/lessons on the site: Check the page you want to drip. This will place a link in your email with the page title. You can use that link in the broadcast, edit the text of it, or delete it. As long as the page is checked, the recipients will get access. Click on Next. then Queue the Broadcast delivery: IMPORTANT! If you give access to anything using a broadcast, you will only be able to revoke that access manually.  Revoking manually means going into each person's contact record and clicking the 'manage access' link under the appropriate Site and then un-ticking the boxes next to the content that you do not want the person to have access to anymore.  You will not be able to revoke access using a segment or an automation.   Check out our guides: How to Use Drip Pages (AKA Dripping Content)

Subject Lines and Preheaders
With billions of emails sent daily, how can you stand out in the crowd and not get clicked into the trash? The email subject line is by far the most important factor in a successful email campaign. It’s what determines whether or not people will actually open and read the rest of your email. We have a great blog on How to Write Effective Subject Lines - check it out if you’ve got writer's block.  But in Simplero we do offer a couple features to help support your subject lines and boost your open rates.  We offer... Subject Prefix A/B Split Testing Preheaders What is a Subject Prefix? The subject prefix helps your customers identify ALL sent from you (via a particular list). Especially if they’re subscribed to multiple lists, this feature will become your best friend… trust us! For example, let’s say your customer is subscribed to 5 different lists. The customer might start to get confused which list each email is from. In this case, adding a subject prefix for each list will tell the customer which list each email came from. To set up your subject prefix... Select Contacts from your Simplero Dashboard Choose Lists from the dropdown menu Select the list you want to add a subject prefix to Select the Configure tab Scroll down to the Advanced Settings section Add your Prefix to the “Add a prefix to the subject line of emails to this list” section Click the blue Save changes button: When you send out an email to that particular list, we’ll automatically add the prefix to your subject line. A/B Split Testing When you first create a broadcast, you’ll have the option to set up split testing of your subject lines. By doing this you can split your broadcast with 2 different subject lines and test the subject lines with a small portion of your recipients your email broadcast. After a period of your time, that same broadcast will be sent to the rest of the recipients with whatever subject line had more opens.  NOTE! If your recipients for a broadcast is less than 2000 contacts, split testing is not advised as it will not be entirely accurate.  But we know you've got a large list, so let's look at how to do it... Select Marketing from your Simplero Dashboard Choose Email Broadcasts from the dropdown menu Create a new broadcast by clicking the blue + Create new broadcast button in the upper right corner: Add a Subject line. Click A/B test the subject icon: Enter your Alternative subject line Enter the percent (%) of recipients you want the two emails to send the test to Enter the number of minutes for how long you want to give the test a run before the broadcast is sent to the remainder of your list. Preheaders A preheader is a line of text at the very top of your email, which means it’ll show up in people's inboxes just below the subject line as the first line of text: Preheaders are a great opportunity to give a brief summary of what your broadcast, autoresponder or automation email is about, or maybe just to peak people's curiosity. You can start using them in all your emails today by editing the preheader along with the subject line and the body of your emails like you're used to. For example, you can add a Preheader via the Edit screen in a broadcast: Select Marketing from your Simplero Dashboard Select Email Broadcasts from the dropdown menu Locate and click on the Broadcast name to edit the email body In the Broadcast editor page, click the content section located in the header: In the Broadcast Edit screen, enter what you want in the + Preheader field:

Email Deliveries
How is Simplero's Deliverability It's really hard to get good comparative data on that, but I know we have a very good deliverability. We work with a leading email deliverability provider, Amazon SES, and we have a very high reputation score with them (99%+). As a result, we're in great standing with respect to the different mail providers that your email will end up with, which means there's a very high probability that your emails will go through. In addition, we work hard to keep it that way. If you’re having trouble with your deliverability, check out our troubleshooting guide. What Is the Spam Check on Emails? We run your emails through SpamAssassin, a very popular spam ranking software, to check for known spam email red flags. It's mostly informational, to help you steer clear of things that will trigger spam filters based on SpamAssassin. Athough if you have an exceptionally high spam score, we’ll refuse to send your email. It’s not a reflection of how many people reported your email as spam - it's only about how your email is being ranked by the SpamAssassin software.

About Open Rates for Broadcasts and Auto-Responses
The figure for percentage in Open Rates is very inaccurate. This is not unique to Simplero as it is an internet-wide phenomenon. Open rates are basically useless as an absolute number, and only useful as a relative number, like a barometer. Meaning, you can test different subject lines and times of day for sending email, and see if your open rates are higher this time than they were before. Here's why: The way they're measured is by inserting a tiny invisible image into the body of the email. When the email client tries to show this image, it calls our server, which registers it as a sign that this email was opened. However, many email programs, including Hotmail, Gmail, and MS Outlook, by default block all images in emails, and your reader has to actively choose to show images in order for the image to be shown so that we can register when the email was open. For this reason, only about half of all opens will be counted. That's the way all mailing list tools work. What you can do with these numbers: You can test different subject lines and different times of day for sending out your broadcasts and see if that changes the open rates upward or downward. The sender name, the subject line and time of day, and perhaps the first few words of the body of the email (Gmail shows this on the overview page), as well as your relationship with the recipient, is what determines whether they'll open the mail. You can use the relative change in opening rates as an indication of how well these parameters worked. What about clicks? Clicks are 100% accurate. When someone clicks a link, we know for sure, because the click goes to Simplero first, then redirects to the URL you've chosen. While it's true that we could count a click as an open (when someone clicks, we know they've opened the email, even if the hidden image was never requested). But then the presence or not of links in the email - or the popularity of certain links - would skew your open rates, and you would no longer be able to meaningfully compare open rates between broadcasts. For this reason, you may experience click rates that are higher than your open rates. It is counter-intuitive, but there's a reason behind the madness. And what about bounces and spam reports? Bounces and spam reports are generally very reliable. When someone marks your email as spam in Hotmail or Gmail, we'll know for sure. When someone's email bounces, we know. What if an email still doesn't go through to the recipient?  Mail providers oftentimes delete an email that they think is spam, without even delivering it to the spam or junk mail folder. That's a huge frustration to someone trying to send a legitimate email that people want, but it's the way it is. We constantly work with providers in order to ensure that your email goes through, but we can't 100% ensure it. That is ultimately up to the email providers such as Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, etc. Therefore, you have to make sure you configure the domains that you send email from under the Settings in your Simplero. This is a big help to ensure your email will be delivered. See our guides on how to set up your Custom Domain and reach out to support@simplero.com if you need our help with it! What’s the difference between Sent and Delivered on my broadcast report? Most email providers will let us know that the email has been delivered successfully to the recipient's inbox, but unfortunately, not all of them do. For those email providers that we don’t have a confirmation of receiving the email on their end, we can only assure that the email has been Sent. Mail Privacy Protection Mail Privacy Protection is a new option located in the Apple device settings of iOS 15 and macOS 12 Monterey. When users open the Apple Mail app for the first time after downloading the newest operating systems, they receive a prompt to choose if they would like to protect their privacy. If the users decide to protect their privacy, this option enables MPP and hides their IP address. In other words, the email program or service is trying to hide whether the user actually opened the email or not. It causes the open event to fire even if the user did not open the email. Simplero's email provider has a logic to tell whether a user has MPP enabled, but it only tells you that fact; it doesn't know if any given open was an MPP open or a true open. For example, out of 3,197 deliveries that have been "opened", 2,413 were detected by Simplero's email provider as being from a device/service with MPP enabled. This means we can't tell if this is a "true" open or an MPP, privacy-enabling automated open.  We represent this information in your Broadcast reports as MPP Opened and Opened. You can learn more about MPP on this post.

How the Sending Limit Works
Unfortunately, we've had problems with scammers opening up accounts with stolen credit cards in order to use our mail servers to send out spam and phishing mail. We've had to put several measures in place to stop this problem, and we've succeeded. The scammers have moved on. One of those measures is a limit on how many emails you can send until we've been in touch with you. You don't need to worry about it. We'll never prevent you from getting another opt-in, and we'll warn you well ahead of the limit becoming an issue for you. Once it does, Simplero will let you know that it's time to raise the limit, and will notify you of exactly what to do to raise it. We promise to be quick to raise the limit, once you've sent us the information that we ask for. It's all handled pretty seamlessly. Just go with the flow, and it'll all work out. Happy emailing!

What Do the Secretive Options Mean
This feature is useful when you want to hide the broadcast from your archive or prevent people from viewing it on the web.  To see the Secretive Options: Select Marketing from your Simplero Dashboard. Select Email Broadcasts from the drop down menu Click the Delivered tab, locate and click on the broadcast you've sent (You can also select your broadcast from the "All" tab): You'll see the Broadcast overview and if you look on the bottom right corner, you'll see the Secretive Options section:  Remove web version means we remove the ability to view it online in the browser. For example, Google happens to find the email and someone clicks on the link. Well, when they do that they won't be able to view it.  Allowing your customers to access your archive of emails: When a customer signs up to a list, you can allow them to access an archive of the previous emails sent to that list. To do so: Select the Contacts from your Simplero Dashboard Select Lists from the dropdown menu Select the list you want to set the Archive option for Select the Configure tab Scroll down to the Advanced Settings toggle the “Let people access an archive of emails sent to this list” option ON Choose the option you want for Archive Public - URL will be public and searchable Secret - URL will be unique and hard to find Click the blue Save Changes button How will my customers access the archive? They will need to click the “manage your preferences” link on any email that you sent to that list: This will open a page showing the lists they are subscribed to. The ones that have the archive option active will show as hyperlinks: If they click on the list, it will show a list of all emails sent:

Why Simplero Doesn't Do Fancy Graphic Emails
Most mailing list systems out there let you design your own fancy graphic email template, complete with header graphic, a sidebar, and sometimes complex 3-column setups.  Simplero doesn't offer that because simple emails make you more money and build better relationships. Here's why: It turns out that the emails that get opened most and get the best response are emails that feel like they're written directly from you to your recipient. Just a few friends talking with each other. It's personal, and it looks and feels like a personal email. Most people don't use a fancy 2- or 3-column email template when they're just writing with their closest friends. It would feel decidedly off. Like "why are you talking to me like you're all formal and stuff? It's me! Hello!?!". That's what it tends to feel like when you "dress up" your email or newsletter too much. Studies also show people read more and click the links more in emails that are simple text emails instead of fancy graphic emails. It converts better. Translation: You make more money! Content is "King" Simple emails let you focus on what's important, namely the content. We do make it easy for you to make subheads (like the one above), as well as bullets, indentations, images, links, bold, italic, insert images, and those kinds of things. They increase the value by making it more clear and readable. But the critical ingredient of your emails is your words, your content - and the more you focus on those and not the design and layout, the more value for your audience. And that translates into a better relationship and - more money! For some cases, it does make sense to use a fancy graphical newsletter. A number of my customers use MailChimp or CampaignMonitor alongside Simplero for precisely this reason. You can use those other systems for your main newsletter, and use Simplero for setting up a quick landing page for a webinar, or for emailing your customers about the courses they're participating in. That's a perfectly fine and legitimate way to arrange yourself if you have that need. However, for most of us, the simple plain text email works best - easiest to write, easiest to read, and most profitable for you. That said... Simplero does let you create simple email design templates with a header graphic, choose your font size, or even provide your own fully custom HTML template. Here’s how: Select Marketing from your Simplero Dashboard Select Email Broadcasts from the dropdown menu Click the three dots in the top right corner and choose Email Designs from the dropdown Select from the list of email designs and make any edits as you wish:

Delaying Normal Broadcasts During an Email Funnel
This guide is going to show you how to make it so that new subscribers do not receive your normal broadcasts until after they have completed an automation. This works when you want to exclude them from receiving broadcasts while they’re in the middle of the initial email series they opted in for or if they are in a sales funnel. To do this you’ll want to add a tag to the people in the sequence, exclude that tag from all broadcasts, and then remove the tag when the sequence is finished. Again, this is so the recipients of the sequence are not bombarded with emails. Follow the steps below for adding such a tag depending on the type of sequence you are using.  Here's how to delay normal Broadcasts during an Email Funnel: Follow the steps in this guide to create your automation, if you haven’t already. Then when you send your normal broadcasts, make sure to exclude active flows in this automation from your recipients. Here’s how: Follow the steps in this guide to create your broadcast Under the Recipients tab, press + Add include group to add the people you want to send to Then press + Add exclude group to exclude the people actively moving through your automation Select Automation targets under Select group type, then check the box next to the automations you want to exclude and make sure you select Active from the dropdown next to Select sources:

What Is the Spam Check on Emails?
You'll notice the Spam Check section on the right side bar of your broadcast summary page: We run your email through SpamAssassin, a very popular spam ranking software, to check for known spam email red flags. It's mostly informational, to help you stay clear of things that are going to trigger spam filters based on SpamAssassin. These are the main checks SpamAssassin will report back on: If you have an exceptionally high spam score, we will refuse to send your email. NOTE! This is not a reflection of how many people reported your email as spam, it's only about how your email is being ranked by the SpamAssassin software. Editing the Email Prefix and Footer
Customizing Email Prefix and Footer in Simplero Simplero allows you to personalize the email experience for product purchasers, participants, list subscribers, and site members by customizing both the prefix and footer of your email messages. Email Prefix When enabled, this setting allows you to add a custom prefix to the subject line of all emails sent to selected groups. This prefix appears at the beginning of the subject line for each broadcast email sent to these recipients. Example: If you set the prefix to “Site Name,” each broadcast email to your site members will show a subject line like: “Site Name - Your Custom Email Subject Line.” Custom Footer You can also create a custom footer for specific customer groups. This footer will only display when emailing the designated group, allowing you to tailor footer content to fit the audience. Customizing Emails for Products Enable the Email Prefix: Start by navigating to your Sales menu. Click on Products to view your full product list. Select the product you want to customize. Once you're inside the product, go to the Configure tab. Scroll down to the Options section, and enable the setting for "Add a prefix to the subject line of emails to this product." Now, enter your preferred prefix. This prefix will automatically be added to the subject line of emails sent to purchasers or participants of this product. Enable the Product Footer: Directly below the prefix setting, enable the option for "Add text to footer in emails to this product." Now, you can customize the footer text that will appear in all emails sent to purchasers of this product. Customizing Emails for Lists Enable the Email Prefix: Start by navigating to your Contacts menu. Click on Lists to view all your lists. Select the list you want to customize. Once you're inside the list, go to the Configure tab. Scroll down to the Advanced Settings section, and enable the setting for "Add a prefix to the subject line of emails to this list." Now, enter your preferred prefix. This prefix will automatically be added to the subject line of emails sent to subscribers of this list. Enable the Email Footer: Directly below the prefix setting, enable the option for "Add text to footer in emails to this list." Now, you can customize the footer text that will appear in all emails sent to subscribers of this list. Sites Open the site for which you would like to enable the custom prefix, and select the configure tab. Scroll to Advanced Settings, and enable Add a prefix to the subject line of emails to this site: Save your changes. Editing the Legal Footer in Emails You might notice an additional footer at the end of your email. Bottom Filler Copy Feature available on: Skyrocket plan In certain Simplero plans, you can also add a bottom filler copy (aka Open Rate booster) to help with your email deliverability. You can learn more about it in this guide. ----- Notice anything wacky in this guide? Contact support by clicking the "?" button in your account, and we'll help you out.

Social Sharing Buttons
Social Sharing buttons (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc) at the bottom of your Emails and Pages allow your customers to share those emails and pages to their social media accounts and spread the word about your amazing business 🎉 Social sharing buttons are an important way for you to generate brand awareness. NOTE! If you’re looking to add Social Media Icons to the default footer of your Website and Membership sites that link to your social media accounts, head over to this guide. How to Add Social Sharing Buttons to your Email Designs Select Marketing from your Simplero Dashboard. Select the Email broadcasts tab. Select the three dots in the top right corner and choose Email designs from the dropdown menu: Select a Template: Scroll down to the Social section and mark the box to Include social sharing links in emails sent to lists: Click the Save changes button and you will now see the Social Sharing button on the bottom of all emails using this template: NOTE! Sharing links will only show when the broadcast is sent to a List, since this is the only case there will be a public, sharable URL. We also don’t make it possible to choose which social media platforms they can share the email on. These are the four options below: Facebook X LinkedIn Pinterest

Creating a Button in a Broadcast
How to Create a Button in a Broadcast Using buttons in an email broadcast is often better than using just a standard link. Buttons enhance the user experience by being more visually appealing, easier to interact with, and clearer in their intent, leading to better engagement and higher conversion rates. You can add a button to your email broadcast by linking existing text, or by editing a link.  Link Text & Display as a Button Highlight the text you want to turn into a link. This will bring up the editor options, where you can click the link icon, as shown here: This will result in a modal pop-up. From there, you can either select an existing page in your Simplero account (including order forms, funnels, landing pages, etc) or insert a URL. Set the button text as you would like it to appear. The most important step is to check the Display as a Button box, adjust any other settings, and then save your changes. End result:  Edit a link & Display as a Button If you have a link/URL copied to your clipboard, you can easily paste it directly into the body of the email. Once the link is pasted, click on it to bring up a modal that offers the option to edit. Click the Edit button to modify the button label. Remember to select the Display as a Button checkbox before saving your changes. That's it! This works for any link, and any text! ----- Notice anything wacky in this guide? Delivery vs. Deliverability
Understanding the Difference Between Email Delivery and Deliverability When it comes to sending emails through Simplero, it’s important to understand the distinction between two key concepts: delivery and deliverability. Although these terms sound similar, they refer to different stages in the journey your email takes from you to your recipient. Delivery: Reaching the Recipient’s Email Provider What is Delivery? Delivery refers to whether or not your email successfully reaches a recipient’s email provider (such as Gmail, Outlook, or Yahoo). Simply put, if the provider accepts the email—regardless of which folder it lands in (Primary Inbox, Spam, Promotions, etc.)—the email is considered delivered. Factors Affecting Delivery: Validity of the Recipient’s Address: The email address must exist and be able to receive mail. Domain and DNS Configuration: If the domain associated with the recipient’s address doesn’t exist or is misconfigured, delivery will fail. IP Reputation and Blocklists: If the sending IP is blocked by the receiving server, the email won’t reach the recipient. Here’s how Simplero’s email delivery works: We send data to SES and tell them to send an email. Amazon SES is our marketing and transactional emailing platform that acts as the go-between for Simplero and your email recipients. SES communicates with the provider (Gmail for example) Gmail receives the email and decides what to do with it At this point, they will either deliver it, delay (retry) or bounce it If we get to step 3 above and Gmail doesn't reject it, then it was effectively delivered. And as further reassurance, most email providers nowadays do have a high rate of delivery but it’s not a guarantee that those communications will land specifically in a recipient’s inbox. Typical Delivery Rates: Currently, Simplero’s delivery rate—through SES —is about 98%, reflecting that almost all valid emails sent through the platform successfully reach their intended email providers. Deliverability: Landing in the Right Folder What is Deliverability? Deliverability, sometimes referred to as “inboxing,” focuses on where your email ends up after it’s delivered. Even if an email makes it to the recipient’s email provider, the provider then decides where to place it. Will it go into the Primary Inbox, Spam/Junk folder, Promotions tab, or another folder? Factors Affecting Deliverability: Sending Domain Reputation: Consistent, reputable sending habits help you earn trust with email providers. IP Reputation (Managed by Amazon SES): Good engagement over time helps maintain a positive IP reputation. List Hygiene: Removing invalid addresses, inactive subscribers, and spam traps keeps your list clean and trustworthy. Email Content: Relevant, non-spammy content encourages engagement (opens, clicks) and signals to providers that your emails are welcome. DKIM/SPF Alignment: Properly configured authentication protocols help prove you’re a legitimate sender. Sending Frequency: Consistent but not overwhelming sending patterns build trust with email providers. Improving Deliverability with Simplero: Better List Management: Avoid sending repeated emails to subscribers who never open them. It’s better to keep an engaged list than to push mass emails that trigger spam filtering. Optimized Content: Send value-packed, relevant emails to encourage subscribers to open and click. Authentic Authentication: Set up DKIM and SPF records properly. Adjust Your Sending Strategy: Don’t flood inboxes. Instead, send at a rate that maintains good engagement. This is a guide to email deliverability from Amazon SES.  Whitelisting: Getting on Your Subscribers’ Good Side If subscribers find your emails useful but they end up in spam, encourage them to whitelist your sending address. Whitelisting ensures that future emails appear in their Primary Inbox. How Subscribers Can Whitelist Your Address (Gmail Example): Watch Video Instruct subscribers to add your sending address to their contacts. Suggest they move your email from the Promotions or Spam tab into the Primary tab if needed, training Gmail to treat your emails as important. It’s always best to encourage whitelisting during signup, setting expectations early that your emails are worth their direct attention. Spam Traps, Invalid Addresses, and Frequent Reporters What Are Spam Traps? Spam traps are addresses used by ISPs and blocklist operators to identify senders who aren’t using best practices. They look like valid emails but are never used by real people. Sending to spam traps can damage your reputation and affect deliverability. Invalid Emails and Frequent Reporters: Invalid Emails: Addresses that no longer exist or can’t receive mail. Frequent Reporters: Recipients who frequently mark emails as spam. Continuously sending to these addresses can harm your sender reputation. Avoiding Problematic Addresses: Keep your list clean by removing invalid emails and those who never engage. Use double opt-in and ensure that you only send to people who explicitly requested your emails. Simplero’s Built-in Protection: Simplero uses Zerobounce, an email validation tool, to identify spam traps, invalid addresses, and frequent reporters. These contacts are automatically marked “Do Not Contact” so they don’t hurt your sending reputation. You can then correct or remove these addresses as needed. Read more about Spam Traps, check out Zerobounce's blog post about it here. In Summary Delivery: Your email is accepted by the recipient’s email provider. Deliverability: Where the email ends up after delivery (Inbox, Spam, etc.). By understanding these differences and following email best practices, you’ll not only ensure that your emails are delivered but also increase the likelihood that they’ll land right where you want them: in your subscribers’ inboxes, ready to be opened, read, and enjoyed. ----- Notice anything wacky in this guide? Magic Login Link
Using Magic Login Links in Simplero Want to restrict access to your content without requiring a password? Simplero's Magic Login Links feature is the solution. What Are Magic Login Links? Magic Login Links allow users to access restricted content directly from an email, without needing to log in with a password. Users can request a Magic Login Link from a login page or use it as an alternative to passwords for any restricted content. Key Points to Know: Link Expiration: For security, Magic Login Links expire in 48 hours. If a user clicks on an expired link, they'll be notified, and a new Magic Login Link will be sent automatically. Link Requirements: Magic Login Links work when sent via a Broadcast, Email Automation, Auto-response, or Simplero Trigger, and the content must be hosted on a Simplero Site. How to Create a Magic Login Link: In the Broadcast or Email Editor, highlight the text where you want to insert the link and use the link icon to set up the link. Then paste any URL to your content and enable the Magic Link option. That's it! The link to the content is now Magic!  Why do customers receive a second notification with a new link? When a user has access to content across multiple Simplero accounts, automatic access is granted via a Simplero notification. If the original link has expired, the user will be prompted to check their email for a new Magic Login Link. This is a safety measure that cannot be changed. ----- Notice anything wacky in this guide? Contact support by clicking the "?" button in your account, and we'll help you out.

Using Code in Emails and Pages (Interpolation Keys, Liquid Objects and Global Snippets)
Interpolation keys, Liquid objects, and Global snippets are powerful components that help you when building dynamic, personalised, and functional content for pages and emails. What are their main differences?  Interpolation keys: Interpolation keys are placeholders that dynamically pull specific pieces of data from your system or database. When viewed by the end user, they are replaced by the corresponding value - such as a user’s name, order details, or current date. In Simplero, they are used in emails. Liquid objects: Liquid objects are part of the Liquid templating language, which is widely used in platforms for creating dynamic content. They provide flexibility for developers and content creators to display dynamic data on a page. In Simplero, they are used in website and course pages. Global snippets: Global snippets allow you to create custom text one time and then place that snippet of code anywhere you want, which will display the text. This allows you to have a uniformed message across your platform. If you update the snippet, this will automatically update the text in all the places where you’ve added the code. In Simplero, you can add these snippets anywhere. Here’s our guide on Global Snippets for more information. NOTE! For each of the keys in this guide, you need to put brackets around them - like this: For example… ...and so on 🤓 List of Interpolation Keys Inside Simplero Interpolation keys will fetch the data in the key and present it on the receiving end for the customer. In Simplero, these are used in Emails. Interpolation Keys are object-oriented, which means the object that triggers the automation email (or the recipients of the broadcast) need to match the object where the key was added. If not, the key will appear blank for the recipient. Here are some examples: If you add an interpolation key from a… Scheduling Link… …to an automation email - then the trigger that starts the automation with that email needs to fire on the scheduling link. …to a broadcast - then the recipients of the broadcast need to be the event participants from the meeting they scheduled. Survey… …to an automation email - then the trigger that starts an automation with that email needs to fire on the survey. …to a broadcast - then the recipients of the broadcast need to be the survey respondents. Purchase… …to an automation email - then the trigger that starts the automation with that email needs to fire on the purchase. …to a broadcast - then the recipients of the broadcast need to be the purchasers of the product. An automation triggered by a purchase, for example, cannot have emails that use a key for an event - the event key will appear blank in the email when the recipient sees it. Liquid Objects Liquid is a templating language that allows you to display dynamic content on web pages. So we need this key to be dynamic, because it’s based on a user dynamically visiting a site or a page. Liquid objects are similar to interpolation keys, except they need to be used for web and course pages only. customer: Contact object field: Contact custom fields object global: Global snippets object internal_name: course, product, site, group and worksheet Common Liquid Objects: customer.first_names: contact’s first name customer.last_name: contact’s last name customer.name: contact’s full name customer.email: contact’s email account.name: your account name survey_score: score in a survey NOTE! Some of these liquid objects can also be used in emails like interpolation keys, but they must be used for web/course pages (interpolation keys will not work for pages). For the following Liquid Objects, you don’t need to add more brackets around the brackets displayed below: Here's an example of how to use multiple if statements: Global Snippets Here’s our guide on Global Snippets for more information. Combining Global Snippets with Interpolation Keys or Liquid Code If you insert a global snippet using {{global.some_key}} , these will be replaced as the very first thing when processing the email or the page. This means that your snippet can contain other interpolations, or even Liquid code, and those will be evaluated in the exact same way as if you'd typed the contents of your global snippet directly. However, if it contains another global snippet, then that won't be replaced in the same way again. It will work, but it'll be interpreted as a Liquid expression. Also, if you use the global snippet in a Liquid expression, eg. {{ global.some_key | upcase }}, then we will NOT be evaluating any other interpolations or Liquid code inside that global snippet.magic li

Common Email Tracking Issues
When it comes to email, tracking can feel a little mysterious. You send something out into the world, and then you’re left wondering: Did they open it? Did they click? Why does it show 47 opens from the same person? Here’s the thing: email tracking isn’t an exact science. It’s based on a handful of clever tricks—tiny invisible images, link redirects, and signals from the recipient’s email client. And because it’s not exact, sometimes the data looks strange or confusing. The good news? There are usually simple explanations. In this guide, we’ll walk through the most common tracking issues you might see inside Simplero, what’s really happening behind the scenes, and how to make sense of the numbers—so you can spend less time scratching your head and more time connecting with your people. How to Check the Email Status in Simplero Stats for a Specific Email Stats for Specific Contact Why an Email Might Show as “Read” but Wasn’t Actually "Delivered" Why an Email Might Show as "Clicked" but not "Opened"  Number of Opens is not correct / Email Shows Multiple Opens How to Check the Email Stats in Simplero Stats for a Specific Email If you want to check the stats for a specific email: Go to your Marketing -> Email broadcasts Go to the delivered tab. You will see a list of all emails and their stats, including - Sent to, Opens, Clicked, Unsubscribed, Bounced, Replied, and Spam. You can click on any of those percentages to see a filtered list.  You can also click on the email name to see the stats of that specific email: Stats for a Specific Contact You can review a customer’s email history by going to their Contact Page and scrolling down to these two sections: Emails Sent: Displays a full list of all emails that have been sent to that contact. Activities: Shows detailed activity, such as: When the email was sent If and when it was opened Whether any links were clicked Why an Email Might Show as “Open” but Wasn’t "Delivered" Occasionally, you may notice that an email appears as open in Simplero, but the customer claims they never received it. This can be confusing, but there are a couple of common reasons why this happens: 1. Email Scanning Software Some customers have virus or spam-checking software installed that automatically scans incoming emails before they’re delivered to their inbox. This scan can trigger the email as “opened”, even though the customer hasn’t actually seen it. 2. Email Filtering Services (e.g., Unroll.me) Services like Unroll.me collect emails and group them into a single digest. These emails are stored and filtered rather than being delivered directly to the inbox. As a result, the email may be marked as read, but the customer never interacts with it directly. Why an Email Might Show as "Clicked" but not "Opened" Open tracking relies on images, but they might be blocked. Most email platforms track opens by inserting a tiny invisible image (a "tracking pixel") into the email. If the recipient’s email client: Blocks images by default (common in Outlook, Apple Mail, etc.), or Loads only plain text, or Uses a privacy feature (like Apple Mail Privacy Protection) Then the pixel won’t load, and the open won’t be recorded, even though the person did open it. However, click tracking is link-based and more reliable. Click tracking works by redirecting links through a tracking server. If someone clicks any link in the email, the platform logs the click regardless of whether the email was technically "opened" (pixel not loaded). This is why you can see a click without an open. This can cause a discrepancy between the clicked and the opened emails.  Automated systems or bots such as spam filters, virus scanners, or corporate firewalls might "Pre-click" links in emails to check for safety (not a real human action), but not open images, hence not triggering an open. These can create false clicks without opens.  Number of Opens is not correct / Email Shows Multiple Opens Email platforms typically track opens using a tiny invisible image (a tracking pixel). When that image is loaded, it counts as an open. But this can happen multiple times for various reasons: Email preview panes: If a recipient scrolls or previews the email repeatedly (e.g., in Outlook), it may re-trigger the tracking pixel. Security or spam filters: Some email servers or security systems auto-load images to scan for threats—each one of these may count as an “open.” Mobile and desktop views: If the user opens the email on different devices, each device may re-trigger the pixel. Forwarding the email: If a recipient forwards your email, and others open it, all of those will count as "opens" under the original recipient

Why is my E-mail not being delivered?
Why Is This Person Not Receiving My E-Mails? There are a few reasons why this may be happening: The User Unsubscribed from your lists. You can check this by to the customer's purchase page. Select the Lists & Contacts from your Simplero Dashboard Select the Contacts tab Search and select your contact's name In the contact's overview page, scroll down to the Lists subscribed to box and check if any of them show unsubscribe You can also scroll down to the Activities box and check the activities log If it’s a purchase, remember that there’s separate email ON/OFF switches for the purchaser (billing contact) and the participant. The DO NOT CONTACT setting for the contact is switched to ON  Their email is inaccurate and so it bounced. See our guide on correcting email addresses. They are using a problematic mail server. The activity log will show whether it was sent and whether it was acknowledged to have been received by the receiver’s mail server.  However, many mail providers (I’m looking at you, Hotmail) does decide to throw away perfectly good email after saying “yes, we’ve got it”, without informing neither us nor the recipient. Thank the aggressive spam filters. It’s a real bummer. The best approach is to have your customer contact their mail provider and ask them to make sure that emails from you are delivered. If they refuse or don’t respond, it might be time to find another email vendor. A good rule of thumb is that if you’re not paying for it (such as in the case with Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo Mail, etc.), you are the product being sold, you are not a customer. We warmly recommend fastmail.com as a very reliable paid email service that will actually service their customers. Gmail is fairly good as well, even though, yes, you are the product being sold when you use it. You are sending from a problematic email address. If you've configured your emails to be sent from an email address with a common provider such as Gmail, Hotmail or similar, many email providers will filter out the email. This is because Simplero is not sending directly from your email address, but rather as your email address. When mail servers see a mail from such as a Gmail address that isn't coming directly from Gmail, they tend to throw them away – no questions asked and no information given. If you're serious about your business, you will need to get an email address on a domain that you own. Fastmail is a phenomenal choice for hosting all your incoming email on your own domain. See our guide on verifying your custom domain. Another thing to note with your email address is how long you've been with your email server or are you jumping around. If you jump from different Email programs you never get a chance to build a reputation which reduces your deliverability. Stick with us for a while and you should see it rise. Your email was Image heavy.  Emails should be at most 60% text and 40% image or they run the risk of being blocked as spam from mail servers.

Bounced Emails
In this lesson… What is a Bounce Rate?  What Does Simplero Do to Help? How Can You Mitigate Bounce Rates? Bounce Message Glossary And How to Handle Them Having Trouble With High Bounce Rates? What is a Bounce Rate? Bounce rate in email marketing refers to the percentage of emails that are not successfully delivered to recipients. Bounce rates can vary significantly depending on various factors, including the business, industry, frequency of sending broadcasts, the source of the contacts, and more. There are two types of bounces to understand: Hard Bounces: Permanent delivery failures. These occur when the email address is invalid, doesn't exist, or the recipient's server has blocked your email. Soft Bounces: Temporary delivery failures. These can happen due to the following reasons: 📬 Recipient’s inbox is full (aka over quota) 🛑 Email is too large for the recipient’s server 🔧 Temporary server issues on the recipient’s end 🔒 Spam filters or other security settings blocked the message (but not permanently) 📡 Domain or IP issues with your sending domain (e.g. DNS or authentication issues) 🚪 Recipient email server is down or busy What Bounce Rates are Considered Bad? While acceptable bounce rates can vary depending on the industry and the quality of the email list, here are general guidelines: Low Risk: Bounce rate below 2% Moderate Risk: Bounce rate between 2% and 5% High Risk: Bounce rate above 5% Why High Bounce Rates are Problematic High bounce rates can lead to several deliverability issues, including: Damage to Sender Reputation: Email service providers (ESPs) use bounce rates to gauge the quality of your email list. High bounce rates can damage your sender reputation, making ESPs more likely to mark your emails as spam or block them entirely. Increased Spam Filter Triggers: ESPs and email clients may categorize your emails as spam if they consistently encounter high bounce rates from your domain. Blacklist Risk: Consistently high bounce rates can lead to your domain or IP address being blacklisted by ESPs and spam filter services, significantly impacting your ability to reach recipients. Decreased Engagement: A high bounce rate indicates poor list hygiene, meaning many of your emails aren't reaching intended recipients. This results in lower open and click-through rates, reducing overall engagement. What Does Simplero Do to Help?  Simplero manages your contacts differently behind the scenes depending on whether we record a hard bounce or a soft bounce.  Soft Bounces: When an email bounces for temporary reasons (e.g., connection errors, full inbox, domain setup issues), Simplero will notify you in the broadcast and contact records. However, these contacts will not be unsubscribed from your list. Hard Bounces: If an email hard bounces (e.g., the email address doesn't exist or the domain is invalid), the contact will remain on your list but will be excluded from future mailings until the bounce status is resolved. Repeated Bounces: If a contact's email soft bounces three consecutive times, Simplero will mark the contact as bounced, and they will be excluded from all mailing lists. We will reset the bounced status of contacts we record activity from. For example if they sign up to a list or make a purchase using the previously bounced email address. We take email deliverability very seriously at Simplero. In addition to our responses to bounced contacts, the support team keeps an eye on bounce rates and spam complaints. If your bounce rates go over 5% on a single email or overall for the month, our support team gets notified. We do this to ensure optimal performance for everyone using Simplero. Here's why this matters: Deliverability Protection: Spam and bad sender reputations can mess with email deliverability for everyone in the same sender pool. Manual Monitoring: Our team manually checks bounce rates and spam activities to catch any issues early. Taking Action: If problems come up, we might temporarily limit how many emails you can send. We'll then work closely with you to fix the issue. These steps help us keep email deliverability high for all our users. How to Mitigate Bounce Rates Regularly Clean Your Email List: Update or remove invalid and outdated email addresses. Filter Contacts: Use the "Email Bounced" filter in your contacts table to identify contacts with hard bounces.  Resetting Bounce Flags: If a contact's email has been restored or updated and is now valid, reset the bounce flag on the contact record. Unsubscribing or Deleting Contacts: If a contact's email remains invalid, unsubscribe them from all lists:  Or delete the contact if applicable:  Use Double Opt-In: Ensure that recipients confirm their subscription to reduce the chances of incorrect email entries. (Found in list settings >> configure tab)  Monitor Bounce Reports: Regularly check bounce reports to identify and address issues promptly. By maintaining a low bounce rate, you can improve your email deliverability, ensure better engagement, and maintain a positive sender reputation. Bounce Message Glossary and How to Handle Them View your bounce messages from your broadcast delivery reports. Open the broadcast summary and click See Who next to the bounce stat.  That will open to a list of all of your bounce messages:  The bounce messages have 3 different parts that will help you identify the reasons for bouncing: Type — overall category of the bounce. To summarize, this can  Permanent = stop sending emails to that person; Transient = retry later, the issue might be resolved; Undetermined = requires manual review. SubType — more specific reason within the category Bounce code & message  The table below details the different types and subtypes, and what the recommended action is for each one of them: Type SubType What does that mean?  Recommended Action Undetermined Undetermined SES can’t determine the reason for the bounce Investigate manually Permanent General Standard hard bounce Remove from mailing list Permanent NoEmail SES couldn’t identify the recipient from the bounce Remove or investigate the list structure Permanent Suppressed On the SES global suppression list Avoid resending Permanent OnAccountSuppressionList On the account-level suppression list Doesn’t affect bounce rate; don’t send Transient General A temporary issue that could be resolved later Retry later Transient MailboxFull Recipient’s inbox is full Retry later Transient MessageTooLarge Email size exceeds limit Reduce size and retry Transient CustomTimeoutExceeded Delivery timed out based on your TTL Retry or adjust TTL Transient ContentRejected Message content blocked Adjust content and retry Transient AttachmentRejected Attachment not accepted Modify or remove the attachment and retry Below is a list of common bounce messages along with troubleshooting tips. Solution: The recipient should delete old emails or increase their mailbox quota. 552-5.2.2 The recipient's inbox is out of storage space and inactive Meaning: The recipient's mailbox is not only full but also marked as inactive. Solution: The recipient should contact their email service provider to reactivate the account and clear out old emails. 552 5.1.1 Recipient rejected - extended quota Meaning: The recipient's mailbox has reached an extended quota limit, possibly beyond a temporary increase. Solution: The recipient should permanently increase their mailbox quota or delete unnecessary emails. Back to Top Understanding Bounce Codes Traditional SMTP bounce codes are three-digit numbers (e.g., 554) which indicate an email’s successful or unsuccessful delivery. If that delivery is unsuccessful, the codes give you insight into why they were unsuccessful. Codes starting with a 4 (e.g., 421) usually indicate a soft bounce. Codes starting with a 5 (e.g., 550) indicate a hard bounce. Enhanced SMTP bounce codes include three separate digits, separated by periods, which provide more specific details about the mail system error. 2.X.X means successful delivery. 4.X.X means temporary delivery issues (mostly soft bounces). 5.X.X means permanent issues (mostly hard bounces). The second digit indicates where in the process things went wrong: X.1.X: Addressing issues. X.2.X: Mailbox issues. X.3.X: Mail system issues. The third digit gives even more detail about the specific issue: 5.1.1: Bad destination mailbox address (e.g., "name" was invalid). Today, you'll likely see a combination of traditional and enhanced codes. For example, Google uses the traditional three-digit code to give a general overview of the issue and the three-number enhanced code to elaborate. Email Bounce Codes Glossary Here’s your guide to some of the most common email bounce codes you may encounter and what they mean. Soft Bounce Codes (4XX and 4.X.X) These generally indicate a temporary issue with the recipient’s mail server or mailbox. You can safely try to resend your messages to addresses that give you these bounce codes. 421 4.3.0: Temporary system problem.
