At the end of this guide

You understand how the shopping cart works, which products can be added to it, and what to expect during checkout. You can tell it's working when products show an Add to cart button on your catalog and sales pages.

Before you start

  • Make sure your site uses the  Community Experience

Add products to the cart

Products that are cartable (can be purchased together with other products) show the option to Add to cart on the catalog, sales pages, and featured products sections.

Click Add, and the item goes into the cart. The cart icon in the header shows the number of products in the cart.

Products already in the cart show a quantity selector instead of the Add button.

If a product has more than one published price, the purchaser can click the down arrow to choose a price on the catalog page before adding to cart:

You can also add a product to the cart from the product's individual sales page.

Cart page

After adding products to the cart, click the cart icon in the header to go to checkout. The cart page includes:

  • Your order — products in the cart, the selected price for each, and future payment details.
  • Currencies — if your products support multiple currencies, the catalog shows a currency selector at the top right. Products without prices in the selected currency show a notice.
  • Discount code field — appears if there are active coupons.
  • Taxes — calculated based on each product's tax settings.
  • Custom fields — any custom fields added on each product's Order form tab appear on the cart page.
  • Contracts — contracts display in the order products were added to the cart, before or after payment based on each product's contract settings (under Product → Configure → Contracts).

Shopping Cart Limitations

  • This feature only works for Sites in our Community Experience and pages that use our 2.0 Builder.
  • Authorize-only prices - Prices set up as authorize-only are not supported in the cart.
  • Donation prices - Products with donation-enabled prices cannot be added to the cart.
  • Credit type products - Prices that use credits (pricing points) are not cartable.
  • Limited payment processors - Products restricted to specific payment processors are not cartable.
  • Product exclusion - You can exclude a product from the cart entirely. Go to the product's Settings → Options tab and check Do not allow product to be added to a cart. The product still appears on the catalog with a Buy now button.
  • Product bundles - The cart does not automatically add related products (for example, adding Product C because you added Products A and B).
  • Upsells and order bumps - The shopping cart does not support upsells or order bumps. If a product has an order bump or upsell configured, those offers are skipped during cart checkout. Order bumps and upsells still work when the product is purchased individually with the Buy now button.
  • Landing pages don't show the cart button When used inside a "Product listing" section. Cart shows only on site pages, not on landing pages.

Affiliate commission when using Shopping Cart

Affiliates receive credit when a customer uses an affiliate link (cookie) to add products to the cart. They earn commission on any products in the cart that belong to an active affiliate program. Products from programs the affiliate does not belong to are not credited.

Styling in the Shopping Cart

The product catalog, product sales pages, and the cart page use your site's style guide for colors, fonts, and layout.

Troubleshooting

  • Why don't I see the Add to cart button on my catalog page? - Your site must use the Community Experience with 2.0 Builder pages. On legacy sites, the catalog shows Buy now buttons instead.

  • Why can't I add a specific product to the cart? - Check whether the product has any of these restrictions: authorize-only prices, donation-enabled prices, credit-based prices, limited payment processors, or the Do not allow product to be added to a cart setting enabled under Product → Settings → Options.

  • Why did the cart icon disappear? If you switch your site away from the Community Experience, the cart icon and Add to cart buttons are replaced with Buy now buttons.

  • Can I force a product to not show the 'Add' button and be only available to 'Buy now'?  Yes, you can exclude a product from being able to be added to the cart using the checkbox on the Product >> Settings >> Options tab.

  • Is the Shopping Cart available in all Simplero plans?  It's available in Scale and Skyrocket only (and deprecated Rule The World plan).

  • Are product bundles available in the Cart? No. Right now it’s not possible to automatically add Product C, if you’ve added Product A and B.

Optional: For advanced users

You can create direct Add to Cart links that work on any site type — useful for email buttons, custom landing pages, or external links. These links point directly to the cart with the product pre-loaded, bypassing the catalog view. To do that:

  1. Go to the product
  2. Click on the anchor link on the top right corner
  3. Copy the "Add to cart" link
